  1. KIRIBATI. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical interest in the Republic of Kiribati, previously the Gilbert Islands when independence was achieved in 1979. In 1983, the United States relinquished all claims to the Phoenix Islands and portions of the Line Islands and they became part of Kiribati.
