Professor A. F Willis, who has been principal of the Keytesville
public schools for the past two years
went to Glasgow last Saturday and closed a contract with
the public school board to teach a nine
months school at that place, beginning the first Monday
in next September, at a salary of $100 a
month.
The Presbyterian reader of the Courier will be sorry to
learn of the serious illness of Rev Dr. James
H. Brooks, pastor emeritus of the Washington Avenue Presbyterian
Church St. Louis.
The damage to the west wall of Randolph Wessner's brick
storeroom in Dalton, caused by the burning
of the restaurant of Johnson Ewing, colored, on Monday
night of last week, has been adjusted by
Christian Stawitz, an adjustor for the Hartford Fire
Insurance Company. The loss sustained, $150,
was promptly paid by the company to the entire satisfaction
of Mr. Wessner. Our good friend, T.J.
Clarkson, is the local agent for Hartford at Dalton.
Died, Tuesday night at her home in Brunswick, Mrs John
A. Cason, aged about 60 years. Mrs Cason
was first attacked by la grippe followed by paralysis
resulting in her death. She leaves a husband and
two children, a son and a daughter, to mourn the loss
of wife and mother.
Lee Hocker, one of the bright young teachers of Chariton
county has been engaged to teach the Bell
school, six miles northeast of town, for the next fall
and winter term. We congratulate all parties
on the mutual good fortune of the school.
Through carelessness in correcting a proof last week,
the Courier was made to say that Wm G. White,
the young man who shot and killed Harry Myers, a negro,
in Keytesville on Tuesday April 6th, was
59 years old. It should have been 29 instead of 59.
We are sorry to hear that Mrs. John Shaughnessy, the good
wife of our esteemed friend "Uncle John"
Shaughnessy, of Newhall, is dangerously ill with catarrh
of the stomach.
