“George W. Adams,
Assistant
postmaster of Brookfield, was born in Jackson county,
Ohio, April
29, 1840. When seventeen years of age,
and while living with his parents, he entered the county auditor’s office of
Jackson county as a clerk, and filled that position for six years, until 1863,
when he was employed as clerk in the United States Army Commissary Department,
at Nashville, Tennessee, until 1865/ He
came to Missouri the same year, and located at Brookfield, where he engaged in
business and was variously employed until 1873, when he became assistant postmaster,
under W.T. Snow, bing an incumbent of that office for
nine years. He is a prominent Mason, and
belongs to the lodge, chapter, and commandery of
Brookfield, and at this writing is the worshipful master of his lodge.
