Carter; to my third son, Benjamin F. Carter; to my fourth son, John Carter; to my fifth son, Henry C. Carter; to my oldest daughter, Mrs. Mary F. Trumbo; to my second daughter, Mrs. Sarah J. Trader; Among my remaining children: Eliza E. Carter, Ann Virginia Carter, Elizabeth Carter, and to Martha L. Carter..... Witnesses: C. G. Bigger and D. McArthur Proven 17 Oct. 1868 C. Boardman (History of Linn County, 1882, page 760....Thomas Carter Captain Carter was a native of Virginia, born September 10, 1810. When he was quite small, his parents moved to Kentucky, where they resided till Thomas was fifteen years old. In 1834, he moved to Linn County. His first wife was Annie Conkling, to whom he was married in Ohio, September 18, 1833. After her death, he was again married to Mrs. Martha A. Moore, of Linn County. By his first union he had ten children......his son John... Captain Carter departed this life June 5, 1868.

His wife died 1864. He again married, in 1865, Miss Elvira S. Warren, by whom he has five children: Orlando, Jessie, Walter, William, and Nannie.)
