Notes for William Thomas Corey:

While researching in Missouri we found a marriage record for William and Isabella Stephens, they were married in 1869. The 1870 census for Linn county, Missouri showed that William, Isabella and William's mother Louisa were living in the same household. William's mother died in Oct. 1871. William died in Guy, Sheridan county, Kansas, Guy has since been renamed Tasco. This little town is about 10 miles east of Hoxie, Sheridan county, Kansas.

William is buried in the Hoxie cemetery.

Obituary; Hoxie Sentinel Aug. 5, 1920; Hoxie, Sheridan co., Kansas

Wm. T. Corey was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, June 4, 1850, and departed this life at Guy, Kansas July 30, 1920, age 70 years, 8 months and 26 days.

When eighteen years of age he moved with his parents to Lebanon, Laclede county, Missouri. Where he resided for about twenty seven years.

He was united in marriage to Mary Madeline Maloney in 1897 to which union three children were born, one of whom died in infancy.

The deceased was converted and united with the Methodist Church some forty years ago and was a faithful Christian.

His devoted wife, one son, Joseph, and one daughter, Mrs. Esther Shadow, remain to mourn his loss.

                                             Amanda Polly Age 14 female

The 1870 census shows that William is married and that his mother is living with them.

The 1880 census shows just William and Isabelle, no children. They were living in Laclede, Missouri at this time. As you know their is no 1890 census, it would be very helpful in filling in the gaps on Isabelle. William married again in 1896, nothing is known of Isabelle or any children from the first marriage. In all likely hood there are no children since their were none listed in the 1880 census. We searched the Laclede and Linneus, Missouri cemetery's and found no trace of Isabelle's grave. It is possible that they lived in Sullivan county for a time because this is where William met his second wife. A search needs to be made in Sullivan county. William and Mary are living in Laclede in 1900, the census shows a living daughter (Esther) and a child that had died before the 1900 census. They were living in Laclede in 1910 with Esther and Joseph. In 1920 they were living in Guy, Kansas with their son Joseph. I have copies of all the census records from 1860 to 1920 that list William.

Marriage Notes for Isabelle Stephens and William Corey:

William and Isabelle where living in Locust Creek twp Laclede, Linn, Missouri. It appears from the 1870 census records that Williams mother was living with them (Louisa Jane Miller Cory). They are listed in the 1880 census by themself's, no children in the household.

Child of Isabelle Stephens and William Corey is:

         16                  i.    Marvel3 Corey, born June 1888 in Missouri.

Notes for Marvel Corey:

I don't know that Marvel is actually a child of William and Isabelle. All I have is circumstancial evidence. In the 1900 census she was living as a boarder in the Thomas Wood household. This household was very close to the William Cory household. No other Corey families were living in Laclede at this time. The census also listed her fathers birthplace as Michigan (William Thomas Cory's birthplace) Mothers was unknown. If Isabelle was deceased as I believe she was, Marvel wouldn't have had any contact to verify her mothers birthplace. In the 1910 census The Thomas Wood household is the next one from the William Cory household. Marvel is not found in the 1910 census. She would have been old enough to have been married and in her husbands household.
