Bert S. Van Dyke

   Bert S., Son of Alonzo and Josephine Bailey Van Dyke, was born near Browning, Dec. 7, 1902 and died in Pittsburg, Kan., March 29, at the age of 53.

   He married Ruby J. King in 1923 and to this union three children were born. He and his wife spent their entire married life in the Laclede vicinity.

   Besides his wife, he is survived by three children:  Mrs. Wanda Johnson, Pittsburg, Kan.; Mrs. Bonnie Shimmel, Kansas City, and Lonnie Van Dyke, Kansas City, Kan.; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wyett, of Laclede; five grandsons, and a brother, Harold, of La Crescenta, Calif.; and several nephews and nieces.

   Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. E. Musgrave at the Laclede Baptist Church, yesterday afternoon with interment in Laclede Cemetery.

   Pallbearers were:  Wilbur Molloy, Fred Hanson, Guy Faye, Guy Ringland, Edward Williams and Clarence Miller.

   Song service was by Mrs. John Bennett and Mrs. Wallace Gooch, accompanied by Miss Shirley Disney.

   Funeral services for Mrs.

Bonnie (Van Dyke) Shimmel, 51, of Laclede were held Monday at the Laclede Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Stephens officiating. Burial was in the Laclede Cemetery under the direction of Wright Funeral Home, Laclede.

 

   Mrs. Shimmel died Friday morning (May 1, 1981) at Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield.

 

   Bonnie Lou Shimmel was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Linn County, the daughter of Bert S. and Ruby King Van Dyke. On Sept. 20, 1952, she was married to George Shimmel.

 

    Survivors include her husband, two sons. George Bruce and Bert Allen, and her mother, Mrs. Ruby Van Dyke, all of the home; a sister Mrs. Wanda Kirk, Little Rock, Ark.; and a brother, Lonnie Joe Van Dyke, Kansas City, Kan. She was preceded in death by her father.

 

   Mrs. Shimmel had been an Avon representative in the Laclede area for several years.

 

   The family suggests memorials be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Irvin Virgil King Dies: Services at Laclede

   Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the Wright Funeral Chapel at Laclede for Mr. Irvin Virgil King, who died Friday (Oct. 2) at his home in Brookfield.

   The Rev.Manerd Aden officiated and burial was in the Laclede Cemetery.

   Mr. King, a retired employee of the Henderson Plant at Laclede, was born Jan. 18, 1889, in Sullivan County, the son of Charles W. and Miranda Belle Brinkley King.

   Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James Sparks, Shawnee, Okla.; a brother, Mike King, Brookfield; a sister, Mrs. Ruby VanDyke, Kansas City; two grandchildren, Mrs. Patsy Weir, Shawnee, Okla., and Jim Sparks, Shawnee, Okla.

   Casket-bearers were Ed Williams, Carl McDonnell, Roy Ogle, Howard Varney, Nowell Head, and Everett Ogle.

   Lonnie J. VanDyke Sr., 68, died July 4, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

   He was born Sept. 16, 1931, at Laclede, Mo., the son of Bert and Ruby VanDyke. A long-time resident of Kansas City, Kan., he moved to Hutchinson in 1987. He was a retired manager for Proctor & Gamble, Kansas City, and had worked for the past 12 years for the State of Kansas.

   He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 982, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68, a Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2550, all at Hutchinson, was a member of a Fraternal Order of Eagles, Wichita, and was a union steward for Proctor & Gamble. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

   Survivors include: a son, Lonnie Jr., Kansas City, Kan.; a daughter, Sandy Moore, Strafford, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Michelle McCoy, Chicago, and Melina Miles, Arlington, Texas; a sister, Tuddie; a former wife, Terri Neal, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

   He was preceded in death by his parents.

   Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, and the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight. Burial will be in Laclede Cemetery, Laclede, Mo.

   Memorials may be sent to the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68, Hutchinson, in care of the funeral home.

Ruby VanDyke Rites Wednesday

   Ruby Jane (King) VanDyke, 81, Perryville, Ark., formerly of Laclede, died Sun (Nov. 2) in Perryville.

   Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Wright Funeral Home, Laclede, with the Rev. Lawrence Hammond officiating. Burial will be in the Laclede Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 7 this evening at the funeral home.

   Mrs. VanDyke was born Feb. 19, 1905, at Cora, the daughter of Charles William and Miranda Belle (Brinkley) King. She married Bert Sylvester VanDyke Aug. 9, 1923. He died in 1956.

   She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Kirk, Perryville; a son, Lonnie Joe VanDyke, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Michael King, Brookfield; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

   She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Shimmel; two brothers, Frank and Virgil King, and two infant sisters.

Wanda Lorraine VanDyke Kirk, 75, of Perryville, Ark., died Sunday, Jan 21, 2001.

 

She was born Nov. 2, 1925 , at Chillicothe, Mo., to Bert and Ruby King VanDyke.

 

She married Robert Kirk. He preceded her in death.

 

She was a member of the Perryville United Methodist Church.

 

Mrs. Kirk and her family lived in Pittsburg for a number of years before they moved away in the late 1920s. She attended Grace United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.

 

Survivors include three sons, Larry Johnson of Stamps, Ark., Donald Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jim Johnson of Salina, a stepson, Michael Kirk, of Dallas, two stepdaughters, Kay Sigman of Richmond, Va., and Marsha Twist of North Little Rock, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Services were at the Perryville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Christopher Cooper officiating. Burial was in the Hope Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Harris Funeral Home of Perryville.
