Dr. Edward F. Perkins was born in Henry Co., Va., on the thirteenth of Sept., 1833. He is the son of the Rev. William Perkins. Dr. Perkins mother was Martha Henry Fontaine, a family of French Huguenot extraction, the original name being De La Fontaine, and she was a great granddaughter of the illustrious Patrick Henry, of Va. Dr. Perkins was first married in the spring of 1859 to Miss Jennie T. Garrett, of Linn County. She died in Aug., 1874, and he was again maried in Dec., 1878, to Mrs. Kate Moore, a dau. of the Rev. L. T. McNeally, of the M. E. Church. Seven children were born of the first marriage and one, a daughter, of the second. Page 459
