The
judicial seat of Linn County, a city of the fourth class, on the
Chicago, Burlington & Kansas City branch of the Burlington system,
105 miles from St. Joseph, and 214 miles from St. Louis, and seven miles
north of Laclede, the junction of the Chicago, Burlington & Kansas
City, and the Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroads. The site
of the town was first settled in 1834, and in 1837 it was made the
county seat and became known by its present name. It was incorporated in
