PURPOSE
The goal of the Scotland County Genealogical Society is to create and foster an interest in genealogy. The Society will collect and preserve knowledge and informationwith reference to genealogical and related historical and biographical data. As a not for profit organization, we will provide instruction in the use of materials, promote interest in research and aide individual genealogists in their search. As our long-term goal, the Society is working toward establishing a Scotland County Genealogical Libray. To this end we now have a place to call home for our many research materials. We are as yet trying to organize and catalog everything.
Research will be conducted by our genealogists upon request for a donation of $5.00 per hour with a minimum of $5.00. Photocopies and postage are an extra charge. Please inform us of the maximum amount of research desired. Research requests are handled in the order they are recieved. We ask that you enclose a SASE with your request.
The Scotland County Public Library has a genealogy room, located at the corner of Cecil and Madison streets in Memphis. They have some family histories and other research materials, (census, cemetary inscriptions, newspaper obits, and various indexes). The Public Library does not do research.
Our Genealogical Library is located at 218 S. Main in Memphis, and is at this time open by appointment only.
We ask members to submit their ancestor charts and family histories, these are added to our collection at the Scotland County Genealogical Library.
