Surname: MILLER
My 4x great grandfather, John B. Miller - according to 1860 census (pg 30), born in Maryland, 47 years old, master carpenter, married to Elizabeth (46 years old), children: Ira -14, John J.-13, William A.-10, Caroline - 7, Nancy E. -3. All living in Marion Township, Harrison County, Missouri. Their 19 year old daughter, Mary E. was married and living in Marion, as well, with her 40 year old husband, farmer, Amassa B. Woodman (pg. 1)
I am trying to confirm that John B. Miller died 20 January 1861 in Marion Township, Harrison County, Missouri, and find his grave.
If there is a marriage record for my 4x great grandmother, Elizabeth (Michael) Miller after her husband’s death in the county records, I hope to find that, as well.
Thank you very much!
Surname: SNYDER, HANNAH, VARNER
My 2nd Great-Grandmother Mary Wilson Hannah (Wilson was her middle name.), was born February 9th, 1825 in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. She was married to Wm. A. Snyder (1828 - 1896), 22nd of November, 1849.
They actually lived in Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa but according to the obituary she, with her husband, had gone into Missouri to spend the winter, where she died February 10th, 1883. Her remains were brought home for interment.
She joined the Methodist Church in the fall of 1856 under the pastorate of the Rev. James E. Moore. In the fall of 1856, she with her husband emigrated to Scott County, Iowa. In 1858 they moved to Taylor County, Iowa, which was her home until her death. Her husband and five sons survive her. Her remains were looked upon for the last time at the Bowers cemetery, where the last services were performed.
Sons were: John Hamilton (1851-1928) (my great-grandfather), wife Jenny Gatewood Varner (Gatewood
middle name) 1855-1946 born Pocahontas County, West Virginia; David Addison Snyder; William H. Snyder; James B. Snyder; Joseph D. Snyder. Other children who preceded her in death George Snyder d. 1860; Sarah E. d. 1863.
I would like any information on Hannahs and Varners who lived in Harrison County, Missouri whom W. A. Snyder and Mary (Hannah) Snyder would have gone to Harrison County to visit for the winter. The Snyders, Hannahs and Varners are connected. (Please see the Harrison Co. Obituary & Death Notice page for obituary of Robert Varner.)
Since she died in Harrison County Missouri would there be an obituary in that town’s newspaper?. Also, would there be any legal death record?
I will gladly pay any cost of copies.
Thank you,
Judy Andres
