Date: 29 September 1997 Name: Cee Rodriguez My dad's mother's side of the family was Garrett. John Garrett [ed note: 'GARRIOTT'] was my Great-grandfather who also fought in the Civil War on the northern side but he returned home. He was a farmer & I believe he had 12 or 13 kids. He is buried in Halfrock. I believe the only thing left in Halfrock is the church & graveyard. The Garrett family reunion used to be held there. I only meet some of the family when I was very small. My dad had three sisters-Ninnie, Ethel & Flo. Aunt Ethel & Aunt Flo stayed around those small towns the rest of their lives. They are also gone. I know they had children. Aunt Ethel married Frank Russell & I believe their son's name is Kenneth. Aunt Flo married Jess Warren. I believe they had a daughter named Mary or Mary Jane. I suppose I'm lucky to know as much as I do but I really would love to locate some of my cousins & find out more about the family back ground. I hope you can pass on some information to me or let someone know of my search. Thank you so very much. Cee

In 1839, Jonathan VOGAN BARNES (1810-1885) and his wife Susanna (STUDEBAKER) BARNES (1811-1863), moved from Butler Co., PA to Mercer Co., MO, and are buried at Barnes Cemetery, Flat Rock, MO. Sometime between 1846 & 1848, William WASSON and Mary (STANDRIFF) WASSON also moved from Butler Co., PA to Mercer Co., MO. Finally, a William F. FITZPATRICK and Enoch F. DEAN, who were present at the WASSON-STANDRIFF marriage in the early 1840's in Butler Co, PA, are known to have moved to Mercer Co., MO by 1867. If anybody descends from these individuals, or from other co-migrators, I'd like to correspond with you. None of these Mercer Co., MO individuals are in my direct line, since my family stayed here in Butler Co., PA, but I do have a fair amount of information on the residents of northwestern Butler Co., PA during this period.

Date: 10 February 1997 Name: R Ross I believe Sullivan's brother George H. Ross and family also settled there about 1873. His wife was Hannah and children William H., Elizabeth J., Flora Ann, George S., and David Nelson. David married Ella Yargus. I have other information if anyone is able to help. The courthouse fire in 1898 did not help matters in my research and also the destruction of tax lists by the county haven't helped. History should never be destroyed without trying to preserve it first. The genealogical society could have taken them off their hands and published this information for all other Mercer County researchers. Any help would be appreciated.

Need help finding names of parents of Elizabeth LOGAN, born about 1808 in Kentucky. She married Robert H. Lewis about 1825, probably Knox or Laurel County, Kentucky, and appears on the Laurel County census through 1860 but does not appear later. Is she buried in a Knox County cemetery? How is she related to John Logan and Samuel G. Logan of Mercer County and John E. Logan of Decatur County, Iowa?
Is anyone researching a Samuel G. LOGAN family? S. Logan, 26, b. Kentucky, and his wife, M.A., 23, b. Ohio, are on the 1850 Mercer County, Missouri, census. On the 1860 census is S.G. Logan, 34, b. Kentucky, M.A., 30, b. Illinois, L.E., 9, M.F. 8, H.E., 3, (all female) and H.C, 2/12 (male). It is felt this family is the Samuel G. Logan family and that he is a younger brother of John Logan who married Evaline Girdner in Knox County, Kentucky, and was an early settler in Mercer County. Who was Samuel's wife? Her name was Martha Ann; she was born 1828 and died in 1863 and is buried in the Princeton, Missouri, cemetery. Where were he and the children by 1870? Would like to exchange Logan information.
Is anyone researching the John E. LOGAN family which settled about 1843 in Decatur County, Iowa? He is the ancestor of James E. Logan, Rease Logan, Martin Luther Logan, Max Logan.
B. H. LEWIS, 28, born in Kentucky, is on the 1860 census with the William B. OWEN family. He is a son of Robert H. Lewis and a brother of Nancy Jane Lewis Owen. He is shown as Buford H. Lewis in a write-up about enlistees who left from Modena County for service during the Civil War. It is thought he died April 11, 1863, and left a widow, America. Does anyone have information about him or his family? Would like to exchange.
Would like to exchange information with anyone researching the Robert H. LEWIS family of Laurel County, Kentucky, and Mercer County. Known children who came to Mercer County are Nancy Jane Lewis who married William B. Owen, John R. Lewis who married Melvina Cox, and Elizabeth Lewis who married William Wiser (these marriages in Laurel County) and Buford H. Lewis who married America ?? probably in Mercer County. Names of other children who might have come are Lydia Lewis, Milton Lewis, Samuel L. Lewis (strong possibility), Charles B. Lewis, and Jesse Lewis.
Does anyone know of descendants of Buenavista OWEN, born about 1847 in Laurel County, Kentucky, daughter of John Owen. She married ?? CREMEENS in Mercer County, Missouri, died in 1869 and is buried in the Salem Cemetery in Mercer County. Her son, John Cremeens, was listed as an heir in John Owen's will. Believe John Cremeens and his family lived at Mill Grove, Mo., later moving to Trenton, Mo. Believe he had these children: Elsie (died 1936), Ida married a Grubb and lived at Brookfield, Mo., Paul lived Central City, Nebr., and Herschel Owen Cremeens (who was in World War I from Mercer County), lived Nebraska City, Nebr.
Is anyone researching the families of James W. Holman and Martha Ann Owen, Nicholas Edwards and Barbara Jane Owen, and Joseph Owen and Nan Thompson? All were in Kansas by 1881 when the will of John Owen (father of the Owen women and Joseph) was probated. Joseph OWEN and Nan THOMPSON were married in Mercer County, Missouri, and went to Medicine Lodge, Kansas, in 1878. Would like to make contact with others working on these families.
Seeking help on Edward OWENS, Sr., Knox County, KY, whose will was probated December 1838. Will named widow, Nancy; sons John Owens (my ancestor), George Bush, Thomas Owens, Birdson Owens, William Owens; daughters Fatsy, Sally, Polly and Connerty (all Owens) What was Nancy's maiden name? Was she a widow with children named Bush? Sally Owens married Amos Dugger, William Owens married Sally Muncy; younger Edward Owens married Nancy Dyer (probably) One daughter may have married a Coleman Comstock. Any help appreciated.

They lived Ashe County, NC, in 1800, 1810, and 1820 census; Vermilion County, IL, in 1830; Putnam County, IL, 1832-1839. They went to what is now Mercer County, MO, in 1839; Peter died there in 1842. Hannah was in Polk County, IA, in 1850 and Warren County, IA, in 1860 and 1870 and died there in 1871/72. Children were William H., Mathias, John, Elizabeth, Polly, James, Henderson, Rebecca, Jenny, Eliza, America, and maybe Cyrus and Hugh. Was Hannah the daughter of William or Henry Poe of Ashe County? I am seeking information about a SHIELDS family known to be in Bates county 1860-70. Job SHIELDS and wife and children were found on the 1860 census in Mt. Pleasant in Bates Co. By the 1870 census, Job's brother, Isham SHIELDS, was living there with wife, Nancy (Cooper-Loyd) SHIELDS, sons (Dio)Nishious, Edward, and Hosea, daughter Anna Isabella, who was probably born there, and his mother, Anna SHIELDS. This is the last place we have been able to find Job, Isham, or (mother) Anna. Isham's family was in Mercer Co. in 1880 without either Isham or Anna, so it's possible they died in Bates Co. If anyone could share any information about this family, any land they owned, or what happened to them, it would be greatly appreciated.

HIGGINS, James Jesse born June 23,1853 in either Ireland or Indiana. Was living in (Lineville, Mo) Mercer county and in (Lineville, Iowa)Wayne County as early as 1890. He married my great grandmother Mary Alice MARSHALL, either in Butler County Missouri or Lineville on October 10,1878. I have not been able to find much information on these two except for a 1900 Missouri Census, which lists all of their children as follows: Arthur, Lulu, Bert, Ira, Jenny, Everette, Earnest, Frank, William (My grandfather), not including my Uncle Claude who was not born yet. The story is that they had a hotel right on the state line, in Lineville MO/IA. I believe after some trouble, my great-grandfather moved to St. Joseph (around 1910) and my Great Grandmother moved with some of her children to Green City, Mo. Would appreciate any information on my Great grandparents, especially any news accounts of trouble in Lineville.

I am searching for a family by the name of DEAN who may have lived in Princeton, Mercer County, MO in 1895-1898. Nettie Belle KELSEY, born July 4, 1879 in Missouri married a MR. / DEAN, about 1895-1898. They had at least two boys. Nettie KELSEY was the daughter of James and Margaret CAMPBELL KELSEY who married on February 10, 1867 in Princeton, Mercer County, Missouri. Their other children, siblings of Nettie's were:
Mr. DEAN removed himself and the sons and Nettie never saw these boys again. In 1901, Nettie remarried Ethel Kethcart SHARP, and their first born son Edward Elmer SHARP was born in Mulberry, Kansas, just across the line from Mindenmines, Missouri on March 7 or 9th, 1904. Two more children were born in Missouri, and then the family moved to Montrose Colorado about 1910. By 1913, the SHARP family had moved to Somerset, Gunnison County, Colorado, where the rest of the children were born, and there they lived and died. Two sisters of the children of Nettie and Ethel SHARP remain. They know little of their half brothers, the DEAN boys. I have information, i.e. children's lists and dates behind these generations, but I would like to locate these two little DEAN Boys. Any assistance toward locating information on any part of these families would be most appreciated.
