$100.00 reward for proof of John WOODS' (1791-1867) parent or parents. John WOODS, husband of Henrietta (1810-1879) DUNN WOODS; father of Elijah WOODS (1840-1915); Nicholas WOODS (1843-1922); Martha WOODS (1837-1919). All children of second marriage. Elijah, Nicholas, Martha buried St. Paul Cem. Mercer Co. Do not know where John WOODS or Henrietta WOODS are buried, for sure. Published family history for Elijah WOODS lists father as John WOODS born VA, (my gggrandfather, David R. WOODS, half-brother of Elijah WOODS), lists TN on 1880 census as birthplace for John WOODS. John WOODS came to Decator Co. IA area from Lincoln Co. KY in 1864 with wife, children, and two grandchildren Martha (Jennie) WOODS (1856-1931) and John James WOODS, my ggrandfather (1854-1921). In 1866, Elijah and family moved to Mercer Co. MO. In 1867 Mercer Co. John WOODS died. On 1870 census, Elijah is listed with Henrietta, Nicholas, Martha, and Charles age 3. I do not know where Charles came from but he and an Oscar WOODS inherit most of Nicholas' money in 1922. Charles, in turn, leaves most of his to a Garl WOODS. Know that one of Nicholas' nieces was a WAYMAN and is buried close to his grave. Actually, would be happy to pay reward for connecting me to family from this area. I am looking for proof from family records, newpaper notices, court records, church records, etc. Thanks Chuck WOODS

Robert William HAGAN, b. 9/3/1847 in Farmington Township, Clarion Co. PA to Samuel HAGAN and Elizabeth HEASLEY HAGAN. According to a family history researched by Irene Hagan Sweet, Robert preceded his younger brother and mother to settle in Lindley Township, Mercer Co in 1868. He traveled from PA to Osceola, IA with a wagon train, and then walked the 30 miles to his farm. He married Sarah Martha TAYLOR 8/22/1870 (she was b. 9/13/1851 in WV.) I have genealogy information from Irene Hagan Sweet's research that was compiled by my mother, which covers the descendants of Robert William HAGAN through his son, James Stuart HAGAN to the late 1970's. I've traced the line back to Samuel Hagan, Robert's father, in PA, but can't seem to find info prior to that.

I am looking for information about my grandfather. My Mom (now deceased) said he died at the age of 19 yrs and his name was Lee SWAN. That would make him born around 1900.
He married my grandma, Stella WIDNER, daughter of Newt (nick name, I don't know his real name)WIDNER and Eleanor from Mercer Co; I believe possibly around Ravena,MO.
Stella WIDNER SWAN married again and I don't know to whom. She had two daughters.
My mom, Jessie Lee SWAN, married Leroy Clell ROSS, son of Nelson David ROSS and Mary Ellen. They had 7 children. I am the youngest.
I could use some help with SWAN & WIDNER ancestors.
Thx,
Andrea

J.W. (Webster) MILLER born Jan 8, 1862, place unknown (possibly KY), died 25 Sep 1894, buried Lowry Cemetery, Mercer Co., Mo. 1st name not known, only initial J. Unable to obtain birth certificate, death certificate or obit so far. He married Gertrude LINDSEY in 1888 possibly at Ottuma, Iowa. No marriage record in Iowa. It's possible they may have been married in Mercer Co. instead. They lived in Mercer Co. Mo. Had 2 children: Clifford Wm. (or Wm. Clifford) and Claude Webster MILLER. We do not know from whom J. Webster Miller decended. It has always been said he may have been born in KY. We have had records researched in Mo., but no luck so far.
We do know that probate action was filed on 23 Nov 1894, on property located in the SouthWest Quarter of the SouthWest Quarter of Section Twenty-nine, Township Sixty-five, Range Twenty-two. but it did not contain the info we are looking for.
Gertrude LINDSEY MILLER is listed on page 571, Rogers' History of Mercer Co, Mo. She was remarried to Charles E. GIRDNER, Princeton, Mo. 16 Dec 1900 (1898). This article contains more info on Gertrude's family, but none on J. Webster Miller.

My great grandparents, JJ (James Jesse) and Mary Alice (MARSHALL) HIGGINS were imigrants to Mercer County (Lineville) by 1879. My great grandmother was born in 1861 into a big MARSHALL family originally from Tennessee and raised in Poplar Bluff (Butler County, MO). Her father was a Confederate soldier killed in 1862. Her mother died 4 yrs later. My great grandfather, JJ, was born in Jamestown, Indiana c. 1853 and raised in Anderson, Ind. He left there in 1875 and went to Poplar Bluff where he met and married my great grandmother. I believe his step-father, a GIBSON from either Jamestown or Anderson, Indiana, was a Union soldier who survived the war. They, my great grandparents, moved to Lineville by 1879. They lived on a farm southwest of Lineville in the 1880's, 1890's and early 1900's. My great grandmother moved to Green City in 1905. I believe they may have had some family members in the area, particularly the GIBSONS or LOWERYS of Indiana. If anyone knows of this family or have access to an 1880 census, I would appreciate the information.
